Is Notta good for Japanese transcription?
Yes—based on our current evidence, Notta is the safest first tool to try for Japanese meetings, interviews, and voice recordings.
Its biggest advantage was not perfect formatting. It was preserving the intended meaning when Japanese context became difficult. In our tests, Notta correctly selected 橋・端・箸, kept four spoken self-corrections, labeled two speakers consistently, and retained every business value in a message containing dates, prices, API, CSV, and model codes.
The tradeoff is cleanup. Notta often changed Arabic numerals into kanji, omitted punctuation, removed hyphens from model numbers, and chose a phonetic or normalized spelling for unfamiliar company names. Always compare names and identifiers with the source before publishing or sending the transcript.
The two newer homophone recordings also set a clearer limit. Notta scored 5/8 on everyday-action targets and 7/8 on workplace targets, including a shared 制作／製作 error. It still leads overall, but it is not safe to assume that fluent-looking contextual kanji is correct.

Questions about Notta for Japanese
Is Notta accurate for Japanese?
Notta completed all eight of our controlled recordings and remains our current leader. It produced no meaning-changing errors in the first six files, but the two newer homophone tests exposed four wrong contextual kanji. This is useful evidence, not a universal accuracy guarantee.
Can Notta identify Japanese speakers?

What should I check before using a Notta transcript?
